LaWrence Curtis realized his arts vocation at an early age when he began
to express the unique quaintness of his hometown of Barnsley, Yorkshire
(England) on canvas. At age 17, determined to become a professional
artist, LaWrence attended the Wolverhampton Polytechnical College where
he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Although, he utilized his artistic
skills as a professional graphic and exhibition designer, LaWrence continued
to manifest his vision of the world through his painting.
While
on a photojournalistic safari to Kenya, Africa, LaWrence was eminently
inspired to pursue his life's dream of becoming a professional artist.
In 1989, having sold his belongings, LaWrence left England for the United
States. He spent the next six years travelling throughout the U.S. and
Canada composing his experiences onto canvas.
LaWrence's
paintings have been widely received in New York, Vancouver, Sedona,
and Los Angeles as well as in England and Japan. He has developed a
talent for expressing his spiritual outlook on life through his powerful
& colorful imagery that induces a sense of healing in the viewer.
LaWrence's
art encompasses American Southwest regional motifs, abstract realism
portraits (including famous subjects such as Sade, Diana Ross, Claudia
Schiffer & The Pointer Sisters) as well as symbols of universal
consciousness expressed as abstract Angels and Light Bodies. LaWrence
captures the essence of life through bold colorful acrylics on
canvas and watercolor paper.
Proclaimed
as an artist of the New Millenium, LaWrence reaches beyond the
known into the unseen bringing those powerful healing visions back for
us to see and feel. His latest ongoing work entitled "Sedona/Avalon
Goddess Series" captures the essence of the goddess energy utilizing
the Arthurian Legends as told in the "Mists of Avalon", and
using Sedona as the setting for the present day Camelot.
LaWrence
currently splits his time between the beautiful Red Rock town of Sedona, Arizona and the Hawaiian island of Maui.
